1. Introduction – Who Was Moses? ------------------------------------------------------------ Before we talk about the Red Sea, let’s meet the main person in the story — Moses. A long time before Moses was born, God’s people, the Israelites, lived in Egypt. They first came there when Joseph (the one with the colorful coat!) helped save Egypt from a big famine. Joseph’s family moved to Egypt, and they lived there for many years. But after Joseph died, a new Pharaoh came to power who didn’t remember Joseph or what he had done. Pharaoh saw that there were a lot of Israelites living in Egypt, and he got scared that they might become too powerful. So Pharaoh made them slaves — forcing them to work hard, building cities and making bricks. The Israelites cried out to God for help. That’s when Moses comes into the story! When Moses was a baby, Pharaoh ordered all Israelite baby boys to be killed, but Moses’ mother hid him in a basket and placed him in the Nile River. Pharaoh’s daughter found baby Moses and raised him as her own son in the palace. As he grew up, Moses learned he was an Israelite. One day, after defending one of his people, he had to flee Egypt and lived in the desert for many years. There, God spoke to him from a burning bush and told him, “Go back to Egypt and tell Pharaoh to let My people go!” ------------------------------------------------------------ 2. The Story – Crossing the Red Sea ------------------------------------------------------------ After many miracles and ten plagues, Pharaoh finally said, “Go! Take your people and leave Egypt!” The Israelites were thrilled. They marched out, following Moses, who was following God’s direction — a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. But Pharaoh changed his mind. He sent his army — horses, chariots, and soldiers — to chase them! When the Israelites reached the Red Sea, they looked around: - The sea was in front of them. - Pharaoh’s army was behind them. They were trapped! They cried, “Moses, why did you bring us here? We’re going to die!” But Moses said, “Don’t be afraid! Stand firm and you will see the Lord’s salvation today!” Then God told Moses to lift up his staff. A strong wind blew, and the sea split apart! Dry land appeared, and walls of water stood on both sides. The Israelites walked through safely, with God protecting them. When Pharaoh’s army tried to follow, the water rushed back and covered them. God’s people were safe on the other side! They sang and danced, praising God for saving them. ------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Key Truths to Remember ------------------------------------------------------------ - God is powerful — He can do the impossible. - God protects His people — even when things seem hopeless. - God keeps His promises — He said He’d lead Israel out, and He did. - Obedience matters — Moses trusted and obeyed, even when he was afraid. - God can make a way — for you, too!
