MY WORKPLACE LEARNING JOURNEY Applying Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes in the Workplace 1. Introduction Good morning, everyone. Today, I will be discussing the most valuable lessons I have learned from the nine training modules and how I have applied this knowledge in the workplace. During my training, I learned that gaining knowledge is only the first step. The real value comes from applying what I have learned to improve my work, solve problems, support my colleagues, and achieve organisational objectives. For each module, I will explain four things: what I learned, how I applied the knowledge, an example of when I used it, and the result of applying it. My goal is to demonstrate how this training has helped me develop professionally and become more effective in the workplace. 2. Communicate Both Verbally and in Writing Learn: I learned that effective communication involves speaking clearly, listening actively, writing professionally, and ensuring that information is understood correctly. Apply: I apply this knowledge by listening carefully to instructions, asking questions when something is unclear, and communicating respectfully with colleagues, supervisors, and customers. Example: When I receive instructions about a workplace task, I listen carefully, clarify anything I do not understand, and confirm the important details. When communicating in writing, I ensure that my emails and messages are clear and professional. Result: This approach helps reduce misunderstandings, prevents avoidable mistakes, and improves working relationships. 3. Leadership Principles Learn: I learned that effective leadership involves leading by example, taking responsibility, treating people fairly, and making ethical decisions. Apply: I apply these principles by being accountable for my responsibilities, maintaining a positive attitude, respecting my colleagues, and taking initiative when necessary. Example: When a challenge arises at work, I focus on identifying possible solutions instead of blaming others. I also offer assistance to colleagues when I can. Result: This encourages accountability, builds trust, and contributes to a more positive working environment. 4. Understand and Apply Mathematics: Financial Best Practices Learn: I learned the importance of accurate calculations, budgeting, controlling expenses, and using financial resources responsibly. Apply: I apply this knowledge by checking figures carefully, monitoring expenses, avoiding unnecessary waste, and following approved financial procedures. Example: If a department has a budget of R5,000 and spends R4,200, I calculate the remaining amount by subtracting the expenditure from the budget. R5,000 − R4,200 = R800 remaining. This calculation helps establish how much money remains available. Result: Accurate calculations support better financial decisions, reduce the risk of errors, and encourage responsible use of organisational funds. 5. Team Development Learn: I learned that effective teams are built
