The Holy Spirit did not begin to exist on the Day of Pentecost. Pentecost was not the beginning of the Holy Spirit—it was a powerful new outpouring and manifestation of the Spirit upon believers. Before Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was active throughout Scripture. He moved upon creation. He empowered leaders. He gave wisdom. He spoke through prophets. He strengthened God's servants. He came upon individuals for specific assignments. But after Pentecost, something changed. Jesus had promised His disciples that they would receive power when the Holy Ghost came upon them. Acts 1:8 KJV: “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me…” Pentecost marked a new chapter in God's plan. The Spirit who had worked upon people in special ways would now be poured out upon the gathered believers, and the gospel would begin spreading with supernatural boldness and power. Pentecost was not simply a church service. It was a turning point. It was the moment when frightened disciples became bold witnesses. It was the moment when waiting became moving. It was the moment when prayer became proclamation. It was the moment when the church was empowered to carry the gospel into the world. Today, I want us to look at the Holy Spirit before Pentecost and the Holy Spirit after Pentecost. 1. THE HOLY SPIRIT WAS PRESENT BEFORE PENTECOST We must understand that the Holy Spirit did not suddenly appear in Acts chapter 2. From the very beginning, the Spirit was present. Genesis 1:2 KJV “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” Before there was order, the Spirit was there. Before there was light, the Spirit was there. Before humanity was formed, the Spirit was there. The Holy Spirit is not a New Testament invention. The Spirit of God was present from creation. 2. BEFORE PENTECOST, THE HOLY SPIRIT EMPOWERED INDIVIDUALS Throughout the Old Testament, we see the Spirit empowering particular people for particular assignments. The Spirit came upon judges, prophets, kings, craftsmen, and servants of God. Judges 6:34 KJV “But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon…” Gideon needed courage. The Spirit empowered him. David was anointed to become king. 1 Samuel 16:13 KJV “…and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward.” The Spirit equipped David for his assignment. Bezalel was given wisdom and ability for the work of the tabernacle. The prophets spoke as they were moved by God. The Spirit was working. But there was an important distinction. But after Pentecost, something changed.
Jesus had promised His disciples that they would receive power when the Holy Ghost came upon them.
Acts 1:8 KJV:
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me…”

Today, I want us to look at the Holy Spirit before Pentecost and the Holy Spirit after Pentecost.
