How to Make Educational Comics for Training (2026)

Turn a training module into educational comic pages with AI: script the lesson, prompt each page, keep characters consistent, and letter it in any language. With screenshots.

Quick Answer: Write the lesson as a short script (one learning point per page), then generate each page in the ChatSlide AI Media Studio with GPT Image 2 at 16:9. Put the rule in a caption box and the human moment in a speech bubble, reuse the same character descriptions on every page, and attach your first page with Ref img so the cast stays consistent. A 10-page module takes an afternoon, not a commission.

Why Comics Work for Training

Most training content is a list of rules. Learners skim lists. A comic page turns the same rule into a scene: a person, a situation, a consequence, a better choice. The reader follows the character, and the rule arrives as the resolution of a small story instead of as bullet number seven.

Comics also travel well. A page with two short bubbles can be re-lettered in French, Spanish or Arabic without redesigning anything, which matters for teams spread across sites and languages.

The obstacle used to be cost: an illustrator for a 20-page module is a real budget line, and every policy change means a new invoice. With an image model that can draw panels and letter dialogue, the person who knows the content can produce the pages directly.

What to Put on Each Page

Keep a fixed recipe so every page teaches one thing:

  • Title banner: the lesson name, numbered ("04. MATERIALS CONTROL").
  • Scene: a realistic workplace moment with your recurring characters.
  • Speech bubble (1 or 2): what a person would actually say on the floor.
  • Caption box (1 or 2): the rule, the number, or the checklist item.
  • Visual cue: the thing the learner must recognise later, drawn large (a floor marking, a gauge, a label on a pallet).

One learning point per page. If a page needs three rules, it is three pages.

Step by Step in ChatSlide

Step 1: Open the AI Media Studio

Go to app.chatslide.ai/generate-media and use the Image tab.

Step 2: Paste the Page Prompt and Pick GPT Image 2

Choose 16:9, then OpenAI → GPT Image 2, and Medium quality for drafts (High for the final version).

Prompt entered with 16:9, Medium quality and GPT Image 2 selected GPT Image 2 renders lettering most reliably. It needs the Ultimate plan and costs 34 credits per page.

Step 3: Generate, Check the Text, Download

Read every bubble at full size. If a word is wrong, click Edit Image: the page is loaded back as a reference with an edit instruction, so you only describe the fix.

A Page Prompt Template

Educational comic book page, Franco-Belgian ligne claire style, clean bold black
outlines, flat vibrant colours, subtle halftone dots. Landscape 16:9, three panels.
Title banner at top: '<LESSON NUMBER. LESSON TITLE>'.
Characters: <NAME 1: fixed description>. <NAME 2: fixed description>.
Panel 1: <situation>. Speech bubble: '<line>'.
Panel 2: <the risk or mistake>. Caption box: '<the rule>'.
Panel 3: <the correct habit>. Caption box: '<short takeaway>'.
All text in <LANGUAGE>, clear and legible, correct spelling and accents.
Adult characters, natural skin tones. No real brand names or logos.

Two choices worth making once for the whole module:

  • Panels or one scene. Three panels suit a procedure (before, during, after). A single wide scene with one bubble and two caption boxes suits a concept ("why we count stock at night").
  • Style. Ligne claire (clean, even lines, flat colour) reads well on screens and in print. See the ligne claire guide for the style vocabulary.

Keeping a Cast Across 20 Pages

Learners bond with recurring characters, so consistency is worth the effort:

  1. Write a character line for each person ("Karim: blue shirt, methods agent, short beard") and paste it unchanged into every prompt.
  2. Generate a character sheet first (1:1, white background, front view) and keep the best result.
  3. Attach your best page or sheet with Ref img for every new page.
  4. Keep the style sentence identical. Small wording changes shift the look.

Writing Text the Model Gets Right

  • Keep each bubble under about 15 words. Long sentences are where errors appear.
  • Quote the exact text in the prompt, in single quotes.
  • For non-English pages, state the language rule explicitly: "all text in French, correct accents and elisions (l', d', qu')". Accented letters render well when the prompt spells them out.
  • Put numbers in caption boxes, not in bubbles, and check them first.

Where the Pages Go

  • E-learning modules: export PNGs and place them as full-slide images in your course tool.
  • Presentations: pages saved to Resources can be used in a ChatSlide deck, so the trainer presents the comic in the session itself.
  • Print: a 16:9 page fits a landscape A4 or Letter sheet for posters at the workstation.

For Training Teams

If several trainers produce material for one organisation, a shared workspace keeps the style lines, character sheets and credits in one place. Contact us about Enterprise: SSO, team billing and shared templates.

FAQ

What are educational comics?

Comics written to teach: each page carries a learning point through characters and a short scene. They are used in schools, health education, safety training and onboarding.

Do I need drawing skills?

No. You need a clear script and a consistent prompt. The model draws; you decide what each page teaches and check the text.

Can I make training comics in several languages?

Yes. Generate the page in one language, then use Edit Image with an instruction such as "replace all text with the French translation below" and paste the translation.

How long does one page take?

Generation takes about a minute with GPT Image 2. Most of the time goes into writing the script, which is the part only the trainer can do.

Which plan do I need?

GPT Image 2 requires the Ultimate plan. Gemini 3.1 Flash Image is on the free plan and is fine for layout drafts.
