What AI metadata is hiding in your images

Images from ChatGPT, Gemini, Midjourney, Firefly, Photoshop and most phone cameras carry data you never see. C2PA Content Credentials record which AI tool made or edited the image. The XMP block can carry the IPTC field "Digital Source Type: trained algorithmic media", the flag platforms read to show an AI label. Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI write the full prompt and settings into PNG text chunks.

Photos from phones add EXIF: the camera make and model, the time, and often the exact GPS position where the picture was taken.

Lossless removal, not a re-save

Most metadata removers redraw the image on a canvas and save it again. That throws away the colour profile and recompresses every JPG, so each pass costs quality. This tool reads the file structure, deletes only the metadata segments and copies the image data byte for byte. The pixels are identical, colours stay accurate and portrait photos stay upright.

What it cannot do is change the pixels. Invisible watermarks that live inside the image itself, such as Google SynthID, are not metadata and stay in place.

Frequently Asked Questions

C2PA Content Credentials, XMP (including the IPTC "Digital Source Type" field that marks an image as AI-generated), EXIF (camera make and model, date, settings and GPS location), IPTC, comments, and the prompt and settings text that AI generators such as Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI write into PNG files. After cleaning, the tool lists exactly what it found in each file.

No. The tool deletes the metadata segments and copies the image data byte for byte, so the pixels are identical to the original. The colour profile is kept, so colours look the same, and the orientation is kept, so portrait photos stay upright.

No. Everything runs in your browser on your own device. The files are never sent to ChatSlide or anyone else, which is also why it works on large batches without waiting for an upload.

Those labels are usually triggered by the C2PA Content Credentials and the IPTC AI flag stored in the file, and this tool removes both. Some platforms also look for invisible watermarks embedded in the pixels themselves, such as Google SynthID. Those are part of the image, not metadata, so no metadata remover can take them out.

JPG, PNG and WebP, up to 30 files at a time and up to 50 MB each. Each file keeps its format. One file downloads directly; several download together as a ZIP.

Photos from phones store the exact location where they were taken, plus the device model and time. Anyone who downloads the original file can read that. Removing it before posting to a marketplace, a forum or a client keeps your home address and routine private.
